My mother used to make us a drink containing ACV that she gave us when we were congested, it didn't taste good but it worked does anybody remember their mother giving them a drink like this? The one my mother gave us had cayenne pepper in it I think that's what made it break up our congestion.

There are 3 different types of ACV home remedies used to relieve congestion due to colds and sinus problems:
1) ACV drink
Cynthia Holzapfel in her book -
Apple Cider Vinegar: For Weight Loss and Good Health (page 60), suggests taking a glass of apple cider vinegar tonic (1 to 2 teaspoons ACV to an 8 ounce glass of pure water ) each hour for 6 to 8 hours to relieve sinusitis caused by too much alkalinity in the body.
2) ACV compress
Patricia Bragg in her book -
Apple Cider Vinegar: Miracle Health System suggests using an apple cider vinegar( ACV) wet compress as follows: " first, place a thin ACV soaked cloth over throat area, cover with Saran Wrap, then use a flat hot water bottle or moist, hot wrung-out towel to heat the area, allowing ACV to absorb through the skin. This ACV hot compress is also great for cleansing and healing the chest area when treating all lung congestions - colds, flu, bronchitis, emphysema and asthma."
3) ACV vapours
The vinegar vapor home remedy is mentioned by Marie Nadine Antol in her book -
The Incredible Secrets of Vinegar. For sinus headache she recommends adding an eight of a cup of ACV to a cool-air vaporizer and inhaling the infused-air directly for 5 minutes.
After that lie down for 20 minutes and wait for your respiratory passages to clear.(Pg 81)
